Course Overview

Each week is different, but each week follows a similar pattern to help you learn the material and develop the skills to talk about the weekly topic. A typical week might look something like this:

Sundays

Complete the study exercises that will help you prepare to view and understand the weekly material. This might include vocabulary activities, grammar lessons or some other language task that is relevant to the weekly topic.

Mondays

View the introductory material that introduces the topic for the week. This might be a video clip, an article, a blog post, or some other piece of media from the English speaking world.

Tuesdays

Complete the comprehension exercises to help you understand the topic material. This might include a quiz, word matching, short answer exercises or some other activity to help you focus on the meaning of the material.

Wednesdays

View the lecture or micro-lesson that the teacher has prepared. The lecture will help you better understand certain grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation issues that are relevant to the weekly topic.

Thursdays

Practice the language activities to check your understanding of the content covered in the lecture or micro-lesson. This will help you prepare for talking accurately about the topic at the end of the week.

Fridays

Practice your listening or pronunciation skills by viewing the the video or listening to the audio that the teacher has prepared. This will help prepare you to speak confidently about the topic in the speaking class and build your conversational skills.

Saturdays

Join the speaking class and talk to your teacher and fellow learners about the topic you have been studying during the week. By now you will have all the skills and knowledge to have a successful conversation in English!

Repeat!

Continue this process each week to improve your spoken English and become an amazing English Speaker!

FAQs

Who is the Daily English Immersion Course for?

There are two different courses available - Elementary to Intermediate and Upper Intermediate to Advanced. If you are unsure which level is best for you, please contact us to ensure that you are placed in the right course. If you join a course and decide that it is too easy or difficult, you can always change levels to one that is more appropriate for you.

What kinds of lessons and activities can I expect to do each week?

Each week of the Daily English Immersion Course has a different topic. The topic is introduced using a video clip, an article, a blog or some other piece of media from the English-speaking world. This media provides the basis for a range of activities and lessons that help you understand and use the grammar, vocabulary and phrases related to the topic in real-world communicative situations. For example, you might watch a micro-lecture prepared by the teacher, complete a vocabulary activity, take part in a listening or reading exercise, study an area of grammar, write an article, participate in a pronunciation workshop or practice your conversational skills in a speaking class. Each day is different, but each day's set of lessons and activities are designed to help you understand the weekly topic and prepare you to talk about it in the weekly speaking class.

What happens in the weekly speaking class?

The speaking classes are hosted online (via Zoom) by a qualified, native English speaking teacher. During the class, students are presented with a speaking activity and then divided into pairs or small groups in 'breakout rooms' to complete the task. The teacher moves between breakout rooms to guide you through the activity, offer suggestions and input, provide feedback on error and just say hello! The emphasis is on you and your fellow students to use the language that you have been studying throughout the week to complete the activity and activate your newfound English knowledge!

When are speaking classes held?

Speaking classes are held at the end of each study week. Before subscribing to the Daily English Immersion Course, please make sure you are available during one of the time-slots for the speaking class. You can view class times and book your weekly timeslot by visiting the bookings calendar.

What is a pronunciation workshop?

Pronunciation workshops are practical lessons that help you improve your pronunciation by completing pronunciation exercises in a live class with your teacher. Pronunciation workshops last for 25 minutes and host a maximum of 4 students. During each workshop, you will work with your teacher to develop you skills to hear and produce the English sounds that come up in the weekly lessons. You will practice pronunciation of words, phrases, connected speech, stress and intonation to help you on your journey to fluency and intelligibility.

When are pronunciation workshops held?

Pronunciation workshops are held a number of times each week. If you have subscribed to a plan that includes a weekly pronunciation workshop, please visit the booking calendar to book your weekly lesson.

What kind of feedback will I get on my writing tasks?

If you have subscribed to a plan that includes feedback on your writing tasks you will need to submit your writing each week via the submission portal on the course page. You will receive detailed feedback on your writing, including; error correction on grammar, vocabulary and punctuation; suggestions to improve phrasing and word-choice; comments on document structure, tone and register.
